What I Wore: Austin City Limits 2018 Recap

Posted on

Big thank you to Meer Bra for sponsoring this post – all opinions are my own.

These past two weekends have been pretty eventful, to say the least. Both were spent at Austin City Limits (ACL) music festival. It’s the largest music festival in Austin, that takes place over two weekends in October every year. I ended up going both weekends, because my youngest sister came into town for the first weekend, and my BF from Chicago came in for the second weekend. Safe to say, I’m still recovering, but it’s all good.

Weekend 1 – Friday

My sisters and I decided it would be cute to all wear matching utility jumpsuits, since these are pretty much the trendiest piece of clothing ATM. In order to keep it from looking too cheesy/match-matchy, the jumpsuit was the only thing that we matched. All accessories, under garments, hair styles and shoes were different. Scroll down to see how it turned out! This was def my fave outfit of the two weekends, and humble brag – it was my idea to do the matching jumpsuits hehe. Also, my alter-ego this day was Kendall Jenner, since two separate strangers called me this as I was walking through the festival grounds. Not complaining about it. I think it was partly due to my one-length, short hair cut, that I got just a few days before, from Rae at Raven Row Salon. We ended up seeing Jungle, Gryffin, Odesza, and Paul McCartney on day one.

Weekend 1 – Saturday

I wore my “Disco Sucks” tee, and received more compliments than I expected. (Guess people at ACL are true rock ‘n’ roll fans). It’s funny, because I don’t actually think disco sucks. Dance music is actually one of my favorite genres, but this particular day, I was feeling the rock vibes, so I just went with it. Scroll down to see what my sisters wore on day 2 as well. They looked awesome. We ended up seeing Sofi Tukker, San Holo and then Nelly, who brought back all the 6th grade feels. We took Sunday off, cause TBH, I had to prepare myself for round 2 the next weekend.

Weekend 2 – Friday

My BF from college and Chicago, Emily, came into town for her first ever visit to Austin, which was pretty exciting for me. We only did one day of ACL, and spent the rest of the weekend hanging out, exploring, and spending some late nights on West 6th and Rainey. All-in-all, a much needed weekend visit from a great friend. On this Friday of weekend 2, I met up with Julia Soniat, a very talented local photographer, and did a mini shoot. All of those photos, in my white Free People jumpsuit, are at the end of this post. We ended up seeing Khalid, Gryffin, Odesza, and Paul McCartney.

To recap, my favorite performer of the festival was obviously Paul McCartney. It was truly a one in a lifetime show (that I got to see two weekends in a row), and something that I can tell my grandkids about one day. Hearing hundreds of thousands of people sing “Hey Jude” together, along with Paul, was top 3 best live music experiences of my life. It’s crazy to think that my generation is the last that will get to see performers from the Golden Age of music (music from the 60’s & 70’s), perform live. Which is why it’s super important to see any of these artists, any chance you get. So if you went to ACL, and skipped Paul McCartney, we can’t be friends, and you’re probably like, 16, and have no clue about good music #sorrynotsorry. Besides Sir Paul, San Holo killed it, and was one of the only true EDM artists to perform over the two weekends. TBH, I wasn’t a big fan of this year’s lineup – most of the artists I didn’t even know – and I personally think they really dropped the ball on booking good EDM artists. They could have done much better on that front. But overall, ACL is always a great time, and it certainly was for my first time.

I’ve linked every piece of clothing that me, my sisters, and my friend Emily wore. Shop it all below!
