One of my other passions besides fashion is interior design, so I thought I would dabble a little bit into what inspires me in the home. You’ve probs heard me talk about one of my favorite interior styles – the urban farmhouse look. This look has been brought to the forefront of interior design as one of THE most desired looks for home buyers and people looking to remodel (due in large to Fixer Upper… thanks Chip and Jo). So I thought I would feature my parent’s home located in my home state of Indiana. My parents recently downsized, since they are FINALLY empty nesters. And they really took the urban farmhouse theme and ran with it while building and designing this new home.
The urban farmhouse feel is the idea of combining both traditional and modern looks, incorporating horizontal and vertical siding, open floor plans, metal roofs, and large front porches. On the interior side, you can expect to see lots of reclaimed wood, neutral, warm colors, high ceiling beams, industrial lighting, open shelving, subway tile, vintage inspired furniture and don’t forget the shiplap! (horizontal slabs of wood mounted on walls) If you want to be totally inspired by this look, just search “urban farmhouse” on Pinterest. SO much design inspo.
This interior style appeals to me because of the contradictory elements – combining the traditional with the modern. This is how I’ve always lived my life – staying up to date on the trends, but preserving the old. I LOVE pieces that have character, and I’ve always had a deeper appreciation for history and decades past than I think most millennials do. On that note, enjoy my design inspo below! What do you guys think of the urban farmhouse look? What is YOUR favorite interior design style?
