Mastering the Smokey Eye + Nude Lip

Posted on

I’ve decided to dabble a little into the beauty blogging trend, so for my first post, I wanted to share with you guys my favorite look – the smokey eye and nude lip. The smokey eye isn’t exactly a ground-breaking trend, as this look dates back to as far as ancient Egypt. Cleopatra used to wear lead-laden kohl eyeliner, and although toxic, this “smokey” eye look was thought to ward off infections and evil spirits. I can’t guarantee this modern smokey eye does the same, but it doesn’t hurt to test it out!

I’ve brought in my beauty advisor, who also happens to be my younger sister Sophie. Her first language is makeup, and her knowledge of brands and application extends far beyond me. Even in high school, she had girls lined up on prom day to have their makeup done by her. I can seriously see her starting her own blog one day, as her knowledge of beauty and blogging served as my inspiration when first starting my own blog. So I thought it only appropriate that I let her take the reigns on this one. See below for her step-by-step guide. (Note: the brands used to achieve this look are MY favorites, but feel free to use any other beauty brands you prefer!)

Step 1: Spray a small amount of Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water onto the face (one to two sprays will do)

Step 2: Squeeze a tear-drop size amount of the Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Face Primer onto pointer finger, and spread evenly  with the middle and pointer finger over the face

Step 3: Take the Morphe Flat Buffer Foundation Makeup Brush and squeeze a dime-sized amount of L’Oreal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup foundation onto the brush. Apply evenly all over face.

Step 4: Use your ring finger to apply the Bobbi Brown Light to Medium Bisque Color Corrector under eyes, and anywhere there are blemishes on the face

Step 5: Squeeze a tear-drop size of the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer on to the pointer finger and apply to the under eyes

Step 6: Using a powder brush, apply the Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder evenly over the face

Step 7: Use a contouring brush and the Whatup Beaches Matte Bronzer to contour the face. Draw a thick line starting at the jaw bone by the ear, following the bottom of the check bone, stopping in the middle of your check. Then blend with the contour brush until a line no longer appears

Step 8: Using an eye brush, apply the color stark from the Naked2 Basics palette evenly on the eye lids, from the lash line, stopping at the crease of the eye lids

Step 9: Apply the sable color from the Lorac Pro Palette in the crease of each eyelid

Step 10: Apply the espresso color from the Lorac Pro Palette evenly on the eye lids, from the lash line, stopping at the crease of the eye lids

Step 11: Apply the pewter color from  the Lorac Pro Palette evenly on the eye lids, from the lash line, stopping at the crease of the eye lids

Step 12: Using an eyeliner brush, apply the black color from the Lorac Pro Palette, to the lash line and waterline, on your lower lashes

Step 13: Using an eyebrow brush, apply the color undone from the Naked2 Basics palette to the eyebrows, filling them in evenly

Step 14: Use a basic face brush to apply the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder Highlight 01 to the highest part of your cheekbones back to your jaw bone by the ear

Step 15: Use a basic face brush to apply the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed highlight color opal to the area right below the highest part of your cheekbones, to the jaw bone by the ear

Step 16: Use a blush brush to apply the Lancome Blush Subtle Long Lasting Powder Brusher color 021 Rose Paradis to the same spot at the contour (starting at the jaw bone by the ear, following the bottom of the check bone, stopping in the middle of your check)

Step 17: Apply the Voluminous Butterfly Mascara to the top lashes

Step 18: Lastly, apply your favorite nude gloss or lipstick
