This same time last year was when I made the bold decision that I was going to move to Austin. I remember the exact moment I made this decision. I was sitting in an Uber, running errands for my boss, texting my sister. For whatever reason, it just hit me that Austin was where I belonged. Right away, I texted my sister and told her that I was going to move down to Austin with her. (She had been planning to move down to Austin after school for quite some time). In the back of my mind, I always knew that Chicago wasn’t a long-term plan for me. I knew I would eventually end up somewhere warm, out west. I had been praying to the Lord for a while to show me my next move – to show me where I belonged. At that time, I wasn’t sure exactly when that would happen, but I knew I wanted it to be as soon as I could financially support the move. Once my sister graduated from school in the spring, it took us both a summer to save up. FINALLY, a few months ago, we were able to make our dream a reality, and I haven’t looked back since.
Since moving down, I’ve truly fallen in love with this small, (but crowded) city. Austin TRULY has something for everyone. Drive no more than 20 miles east, and you’re in the flat, wide open spaces of Texas – aka God’s country. Drive 20 miles west, and you’ll literally feel like you’re in the hills of San Francisco (where a ton of Austin’s tech companies reside). Straight past those hills is the beautiful Lake Travis, with the cutest lake towns surrounding the outskirts. Spend a day on South Congress (where this shoot took place!) or the neighborhood of Clarksville, and you’ll totally feel those West Hollywood vibes (without all the wanna-be reality stars and high maintenance mentality). My favorite thing about this city? It feels like a mini LA, with a down home, Texas twist. In 2014, Austin grew more than any other city in the ENTIRE country – with the low cost of living and low tax rates on business, it’s no wonder some of the biggest names in tech have expanded to this humble city. Names like Google, Apple, Dropbox and Oracle now all call Austin home. Not to mention, Austin ALSO happens to be the live music capital of the world. With ACL and SXSW calling Austin home, the city combines fashion, music AND tech to create a city that’s simply bursting with creativity. I originally had planned to move to Southern Cali after Chicago, but the Lord led me here, and I’m so grateful He did. In conclusion, Austin rocks.
Now onto this look from local boutique appropriately named Austin Rocks. Austin Rocks is located right downtown on 2nd street, so if you live in the area, GO! If you’re planning a trip down here soon, this is a can’t miss for tourists. Austin Rocks combines rock ‘n’ roll style fashion with an Austin city gift shop. They have tons of Austin tees, and their children’s section is ADORABLE. If you’re looking for a gift for that one friend who is as obsessed with Austin as I am, or if you’re just looking for some cool girl pieces for yourself, make the trip to Austin Rocks (they don’t have an online store, buuuut they do ship worldwide!)
It’s safe to say velvet and mesh are THE biggest trends as we make our way into the Holiday season. So I’ve combined both of these trends to create my favorite look that I’ll be rocking all season long. This look is available NOW at Austin Rocks, so get it while it lasts! Peace, love, Austin Rocks.
Big thank you to Austin Rocks for sponsoring this post – all opinions are my own.
