I’m super pumped to show you guys one of my fave places I’ve visited in Texas so far – Enchanted Rock. This state park is located in the Texas Hill Country, and it’s THE best place for hiking (and photoshoots). I actually really love to be outdoors, and exploring new areas of Texas is what I live for. So, when I heard about a place with a huge granite dome in the center, along with 11 miles of hiking trails, I knew I had to check it out.
I was already planning on visiting this park when a photographer from Houston, Katya Isbell reached out to me and said she was looking for a model to shoot at the park. It was like she read my mind, as I had been thinking about shooting here for a while. So, the week before our shoot, I took the hour and 45 minute drive out to Enchanted Rock, to scope out shoot areas, and explore the trails.
The main (and most popular) hike, takes you up to the highest point of the rock, although there are a ton of other trails, that take you down beautiful paths through the different rock formations. I definitely recommend hiking the Summit Trail, at least for your first visit, so you can experience the simply breathtaking views from the top of the rock.
I took the trip alone, and I’m so happy I did. There was something truly magical about hiking to the top, and experiencing the 360 degree views for miles, all by myself. It was a chance for me to reconnect with myself, and take in the beauty of this park, uninterrupted.
There’s also camping sites in the park, so you can make a weekend out of it, and hike all of the different trails (this is definitely something I hope to do really soon). Travel tip: be sure to arrive to the park AT LEAST 15 minutes before it opens in the morning, if you plan to visit the park on a weekend day. The park ALWAYS reaches capacity during the weekend. It opens at 8am, and when I visited the first time, I arrived at 7:50am, and was the 4th car in line (super eager, I know), but it definitely paid off. By the time I left to head back home at 9:30am, the park had already reached capacity for the day, and they were turning cars away. If you can swing it, I definitely recommend visiting on a week day. The second time I made the trip out for my shoot, it was a Monday, and it was wayyyy more chill than my first visit. You don’t have to get there super early if you don’t want to, because there’s way less visitors on weekdays, and the park won’t fill up.
This was definitely one of my favorite shoots I’ve ever done, and I’ve got the beauty of Enchanted Rock to thank for that. So next time you’re in the area, be sure to check it out – trust me, it’s a can’t miss xoxo
